Physical Therapy

There are many different types of therapy that people can use to treat various conditions. Physical therapy is an alternative form of medicine that focuses on the alignment of the spine and joints. It is a non-invasive treatment option that has been shown to be effective for various issues, such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches.

Physical therapists use various methods to adjust the spine and joints, including exercise, manual therapy, movement and body mechanics training. Physical therapy can be used alone or in combination with other forms of treatment, such as medication.

If you are looking for physical therapy in Burnsville, MN, you have come to the right place. Our team of physical therapists are dedicated to providing you with the highest quality of care possible. We specialize in various services, including manual therapy, body mechanics training and massage therapy. We know that when your body is functioning at its best, you can feel your best. Let us help you get back to feeling like your old self again!

What Is Physical Therapy?

Physical therapy is a health care approach that focuses on how the spine and joints affect overall wellness. A physical therapist uses spinal manipulation as well as other procedures such as manual therapy, movement and body mechanics training etc. to bring the spine into alignment, so your body's nervous system can function at its optimal level.

This treatment often reduces discomfort and increases mobility in the body. When you choose to work with a physical therapist, they will look at not only your back but also your whole body, including any other factors that may increase or decrease your pain levels. This allows them to create an effective treatment plan just for you!

If you have pain in your back, you are probably wondering if you should see a doctor. It is important to note that physical therapy is used as a complementary treatment and not as a replacement for medical treatment. A good physical therapist will work with other members of your healthcare team, such as your family doctor to create an individualized treatment plan just for you.

As part of the treatment process, your physical therapist may give you exercises or stretches at home to get better results from their treatment. If so, make sure to ask about it! This way, you can start feeling better sooner!

How Does Physical Therapy Work?

A physical therapist uses their hands to diagnose and treat the patient's condition by relieving pressure on nerve roots where they exit the spinal column. They can also use instruments, such as an activator, to adjust misaligned joints in the neck or back — this does not involve any popping or cracking sounds. Once realignment is achieved, blood flow increases, causing a release of endorphins that help relieve even before any other treatment options have time to work.

At heart, physical therapy is a health care system focused on the relationship between the body and spine and how that relationship affects the overall health of an individual. The practice treats both acute causes such as falls, motor vehicle accidents, and sports injuries, as well as chronic causes such as back pain due to muscle sprain or strain, arthritis in the neck or lower back, repetitive motions of lifting, etc., headaches related to nerve impingement due to misalignment of vertebrae — even premenstrual syndrome!

What Can I Expect With Physical Therapy?

During your first visit, expect to provide any current symptoms and health concerns. This also includes answering any questions you may have. Your physical therapist will need to know about your health history as well as any previous injuries. You must be up-front with them so that they can provide the best possible care for you! They should go over the available treatment options, along with their benefits and risks.

Your first appointment should also include a full spine exam where you will be asked to remove some of your clothing or put on a gown. By doing this, the physical therapist can get a better idea of what is causing your pain and pinpoint exactly where it is coming from. This part may take up to 30 minutes, depending on how many injuries or issues they find. During this time, you will likely feel some pressure being applied to different areas of your spine. You should not feel pain, but it may be uncomfortable for some people. Once the exam is over, your physical therapist will talk with you about their findings and what they recommend for treatment. If they have not already discussed this with you before your visit, ask them questions ranging from the length of time that treatment will take to any exercises or stretches that they may want you to do at home to get better results.

I have been seeing chiropractors for 20 years now and Dr. Alex along with seeing PT Megan is hands down the best experience I have had. As athletes themselves, they really understand the demands training can place on the body and they work together to get you moving correctly to fix injuries and prevent future issues....

They are skilled and compassionate. I arrived in quite a bit of pain with no lasting relief from other PT and Chiros. Dr. Alex and Megan are very supportive and knowledgeable, creating a trusting environment focused on a long term individualized healing plan. After only a few sessions and at home simple exercises, my pain diminished significantly... I highly recommend them both!

I’ve been to a dozen different chiropractors over the years and for the most part enjoyed my (perhaps 150) visits, but always found that the next day I felt like I needed to go back ...it left me with a love/hate relationship with chiropractors.
